Sniper Rifle

A desert coated long-distance rifle with magnifying scope

This 3D model of a sniper rifle was created a while ago. I initially had no coating on this weapon, but I later decided to go for a brown-yellowish colour that would fit in a desert environment, to make it more interesting than just having a bare dark shaded rifle. It also gives for a better contrast between the magnifying scope and the rest of the weapon.

Sometimes it can be hard to see a lot of the details on these small images. Simply click on any image, if want to see the full-sized version.

As you can see the rifle has plenty of space for additional attachments besides from its magnifying scope. In the beginning I wanted to also add a bipod to the front of this weapon, however I already used up a lot of the texture space (see bottom of page) for this model, therefore, if I'm going to create the bi-pod in the future, it will have a separate material/texture.

You can tell that this weapon is field-tested, as it has some spots that encounter a lot of friction during usage, where the coating is starting to peel off.

As you can see, since this model has plenty of UV islands, I really tried to use all the available texture space. And I think I managed to get everything sorted well, without needing to cut out the magnifying scope and placing it onto a separate texture.
